1972 Evinrude 65 hp Impeller

My buddy had an older Evuinrude 65 hp outboard,it works perfect but has had it for a couple of years now.He wants to replace the impeller but the electric shift scares him.Does anybody know what parts he will need,and if there is any specific ways to to do this without messing with the wires for the electro shift?He just wants to change the impeller and the lower end lube,Nothing else,and is frightenned by the unavailability of parts if something goes wrong.

There are 2 wires going down to the L/U. A blue and a green. They are connected with bayonet clips under the cowling. Disconnect them there and tie a small strong cord on the ones going down. When you reassemble you can use this cord to pull the wires back up.
