Hello all. This is my craigslist boat you all helped with in 2013/2014. I adjusted the lower shift cable about two years ago as per Chris' video and all was good. The last few times out, it has been difficult to get into reverse, grinding etc. Re watching the video, I have raised the sliding peg; reverse now engages, but the shift interrupt seems to be shutting the engine completely down after reverse in engaged and then giving it a small amount if throttle in reverse. Any thoughts?

Thank you all.

Thanks guys. I checked the lower shift cable and found it smooth in operation, so I had my wife operate the shift/throttle with the engine running and observed the shift interrupt switch operation several times. It turns out I had adjusted the reverse peg too far and incrementally lowered it until the interrupt no longer killed the engine. It seems to shift fine now; will test on the water in two weeks. :)

Bondo. Thanks for the reminder about the bellows!

The interrupt switch should not be operating at all going into gear. It should only operate going out of gear while you are on the water. On muffs, you should never see it operate at all.

If it operates when it's not supposed to...bad shift cable.

Thanks Bruce. I'll see how it goes next weekend, weather permitting.

All the best.
