hi,

first boat!! so far all i know is its powered by a (OMC?) GM 4 cylinder twin Carter RBS carbs. the guy i bought it from said it was 120hp and a OMC out drive.
i would like model #'s and any other info as i'm having problems trying to figure it out on my own.... trying to find out what oils to use in the out drive, think i need a water pump impeller for this thing too.... from what i have searched, i think its a OMC 400? but then the name Stringer comes up every now and then....

thank you for your time!

Last year for the twin carb 110HP 2.5 was 1971, but a 71 drivetrain could definitely have ended up in a 1972 boat. It's 110HP, not 120
Your drive is not a 400 (400 was introduced in 1978).
Your drive was simply known as the "OMC Sterndrive" in its day. It is electric shift as were all OMC sterndrives from 1964-1977.
You need to put a special oil in the lower unit: Type C is what it is called. Grew implies you're in Canada so you can get "Type C" at Canadian Tire. Their stuff is good.
You can also use Type C in the Upper and Intermediate housings, but you can also use any marine 80W90 in those two compartments.
Your tilt clutch cavity can use any oil you want - 80W90, engine oil - whatever.
If you want to keep it simple - you can put Type C in everything behind the transom.

Most online sellers carry a water pump impeller kit that they claim fits all OMC drives from 1964 to 1985 - that's the one you need. Get the kit with the housing. Get a factory service manual (eBay)

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... Sounds like ya got an OMC,...
I'll slide this over into that forum....

My guess is you've got an ole 70s, 2.5l, 120hp, with a Stringer 400 drive.....

Good Luck with it.....

Dude!
I can't believe I bought the boat you described in your post!
I looked at the pictures and I'm sure it's the same one.
I bought it from a guy who lives in the Oshawa area.
I've owned a variety of boats and the reason I bought this one is because I love the old Grew Slickcrafts.
The guy gave me some bills and one of them is for a trim motor from Arrowhead to Joey P Frankford 685 Rxxxxush.
If this is you then please email me. I'd love to discuss.
Look forward to hearing from you. email me and reply with my number.
EDIT
Rob.
