Hello all. My first post in these forums was on April 14, 2013 shortly after coming home with a boat. There have been many more posts since then which have led up to today?s 2nd shakedown run of my 1972 Gulfstream which runs a Mercruiser 165 (GM 250 inline L6 engine, now rebuilt with hardened valve seats) and MC-1 out drive.

My friend Jack and I launched into the Sacramento River at about 09:30 PST and immediately noticed the water leak that was found during the first run a few months back was gone! Forward and reverse now engage perfectly (Thanks in particular to Achris and his shift cable adjustment video). The size of the new gas tank required a bulkhead to be relocated?thanks to woodonglass for that info. Thanks to Bondo for many good tips to my and other poster?s questions. There are many others here as well that have contributed to the end result?a good running boat!

It was fairly cool this morning, but the engine started right up and idled right down. We spent 3 hours running up and down the river at various speeds including idling past several marinas and checking out some really cool boats. The engine runs very strongly from idle to WOT, and the ride is very very smooth. The engine temperature maxed out at 140 but was usually around 115-120; perhaps the thermostat needs replacing? I had to adjust the trim tab to correct a pretty hard pull to starboard--perfect now.

Still working on the boat, though. Carpet next, then seats and a fish finder.

This is a great forum!!

Thank you all.

Here I am this morning on the river.
