I just purchased a 7.5 mercury outboard and I am having some issues getting it running right, I believe it needs a fuel pump rebuild and possibly carb kit but I am having issues narrowing down what carb it has on it. Everywhere I look wants a model number and I cant find one on it. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks Aaron

3625751 also my cover will not stay latched it vibrates loose when running or pulling it down the road. Is this a common problem with a simple fix or not.

I am pretty sure that the issue is a missing gasket on my cowl I also am missing parts related to the way the trim works and its not assembled correctly could anyone provide real pictures of the trim and the gasket so I can try to trouble shoot the trim and find some replacement for the gasket. Thanks Aaron

I started dissambleing the carb today to get ready to dip it so I could throw it back together when I got my carb and fuel pump rebuild kit and seems the previous owner already attempted to rebuild it. Problems is he obviously forgot where the ventui went and he just tossed it in down in the carb loose. Now its deformed in shape and one of the wings are broke off of it and I am seeing that it is an obsolete part, are my only chances to find a new one now or what else can I do. Thanks Aaron

Little update, I found a venturi locally one of the Mercury dealers had one in stock. I got the carb kit in today and have alittle confusion. Here is what I have,

IMAG0038.jpg

Numbers one two and three I am ok with they match the assembly diagram numbers 22,25,26 on crowley marine, it's numbers four and five that have me confused. They both match number 23 on the assembly view but it only shows one. In the pump now is the thicker clear one where is the thin rubbery one supposed to go?

Assembly view I am referring to, http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/parts/457_8.cfm

Aaron;

Those kits are made to service many engine models with different carbs of the same family so you will always wind up with bits left over.

I just wanted to be sure like I stated before the previous owner tried to do some repairs himself and I don't believe he was very mechanically inclined and he could have the wrong part in and that's why its not working.
