I have been using 50:1 for a long long time. A guy I was talking to said he uses 100:1 in a similiar 20hp. This might sound stupid, but please tell me this guy is nuts and not me.

Use 50:1 They recommended 100:1 for a while but found out that it wasn't enough oil so they now say to use 50:1.

That 100:1 mixture was for a select few engines in the late 80's (maybe a 25hp was in the list - dunno), never for anything in the 70s. The factory eventually recommend removing the 100:1 sticker and running 50:1 for those even.

_Everything_ past the early 60s is 50:1.

Thanks iwombat I wasn't sure exactly which years they had recommended 100:1 my 85 still has the sticker on it but I put in 50:1.

Re: 1972 Johnson 25hp fuel mixture

Thanks. Thats what i thought but i had to do a head check quick.

While we are on the subject of my 25hp (so i don't have to start a new topic), what is the proper setup for my coils? I know the two are mounted on the back-side of the power head. But i was doing some routine cleaning and under the flywheel and noticed one (where the old ones are) with the points and condensers. There are slots for two under the flywheel, but i assume that is just because they used the plate between other models. Can anyone simply clarify the purpose of this setup?

What is the point gap for this motor?
