How hard would this be to make it a tiller?

I have a duck boat that I want to get more HP on and 50 is the max. the boat is rated to handle.

Would it be worth the effort to put this on my boat over my 25hp 2003 merc?

The Johnson is running good. How much would i actually gain?

They did make such a thing on a manual start version, but I gotta say I've never seen one. I just now looked at the parts list and it would seem that it would be quite a job, IF it can even be done. For beginners, the tiller mounts to a different steering pivot shaft. That's when I quit looking.

I had a 1975 50HP and a tiller it would fit easily on it. Not every size and model motor had a tiller option, but most from the 70s on can be converted. If yours has a flat bar in front of the motor where the steering rod mounts, then you should be able to convert it. The tiller handle mounts on that bar and tillers from most J/E motors will work. The problem may be in finding a throttle cable that fits, I just made a small modification to where the cable connects to the carb on my 90hp Evinrude when I converted it.

After saying all that, I would most likely stick with a new 25hp than fiddle with an older 50hp.

I don't know exactly what controls he has, but most of the time all of the ignition and electrical stuff is just mounted in a panel and bolted to a convenient place on, or near the transom. That's what I did with mine, the ignition, tach, fuel and other things are right next to me and very easy to use.
