Am new to all this and need a little advice. Recently purchased an old 1960 Glasspar Citation with a 1972 Johnson 65 HP outboard. Hasn't been started up for about 2 years but put on the impeller cover, started the hose and got it started up yesterday. After about 5 minutes of idling up and down, and going in fwd and reverse, a loud buzzing sound came from the box that the control lever is attached to. Am just getting into boating as this is my first boat and don't know what to think. After I shut the key off, the noise stopped, but turning the key (not the engine)back on, the noise came back on. After about 15 minutes and turning the key back on, the noise was gone. Is this an overheat sensor and maybe the impeller wasn't working? Anyone with answers would be greatly appreciated.
