Ok so I took the Remote housing apart because the ignition switch needs replaced. But my issue is the sensor switch for forward and reverse has broke at the bolt holes. I have the pieces. I am thinking about super gluing them together since the switch is like $300 dollars. Thoughts?

mandvwager, before using super glue, try some really strong J B Weld. Mix that stuff up and glue the assembly back together and let it sit over night. Then sand off any excess and see how that works. J B Weld is some really amazing stuff that should solve your problems. Super glue seem to work well sometimes, but I have seen super glue come apart with water penetration. And being a boat, I'd go J B Weld... JMHO!

You can probably use a gob of the JB Weld between the switch and control housing. Anything to securely hold it in place. I see you already found out what they cost. Probably found out they are getting hard to find also.

Yea a friend suggested epoxy so I will try the JB Weld. I had thought about putting something between it and the housing also so thanks for that suggestion F R.

So i repaired it the best I could and it worked for one trip and then came apart again. I am thinking about just replacing the entire Remote. Is there a more current remote that will work with this engine or do I have to find one from a 1972?

easy fix, just can't remember exactly how!!! lol I have a 100esl72r, same as yours? That switch in the remote is perhaps the biggest problem with the hydro- electric shift; at least, I think so - luv mine! I ran wires to two toggle switches. One switch stays on for forward, flip the other on and you have reverse. Just can't remember which color wires go where?
Wish I could tell outright, but I'd have to tear mine apart to see. Google it, I think it's somewhere here on Iboats? and it would be better explained than what I could tell ya....

Sounds like a plan I will have to do some research. I took out this last weekend and the JB held but for some reason I had no reverse. I like the toggle switch idea. Where did you but your switches?
