Can this 30 year old fuel tank actually go another few years?
What do you guys think?
I heard these tanks must be cut from the deck.
Michael

What is it made of? If it's aluminum, I would be suspect.

Yes, you probably have to do surgery on the deck.

I have a 1971 22' and the tank was in a cradle but the floor had a lid over it. The tank was foamed in the cradle and was a bear to get out. We are redoing the whole boat so I put in a bigger tank. Pleanty of room to go from the 55 (or so) to the 97.

Re: 1972 mako fuel tank

The fuel tank was a "bear to remove"?? Man, I didn't want to hear that. I'm about to buy a 70 something Mako, someone took the serial numbers off of the hull, but from looking at it, it looks like the 70's style setup, and it needs a fuel tank, as well as a transom rebuild. The Price is cheap enough and the motor was upgraded and I guess the transom scared him, so he parked it, so the motor has no hours on it, just been sitting. A crack in the middle of the transom, big enough to catch your eye, and he was using auxilary fuel tanks on the deck. It looks like the center console comes off and then another deck unscrews. Do youi just cut and chop the foam away from the tank unitl it comes out?
