I have a relatively new to me (last year) Mercury 402, 1972. Love the motor, great power and runs great.
Biggest issue is it takes forever to start. Around 5 minutes of cranking, choking (has electric), etc. and eventually it will start and runs fine after that. It will restart fine also if turned off.
Are there common problems that cause this? I've read it seems to be common for these older mercs? I've resorted now to starting it up on land before launching the boat so I don't sit at the dock forever.
