*This is my first boat so bare with me please. I bought this boat and trailer for $250 , and the motor (1996 Mercury Tracker 9.9hp) for $400. The motor just possibly needs a water pump it does not pee only drips water or I heard a impeller. The problem when buying this engine is its a long shaft 20" and after going on mercury's site and finding a newer install manual I took some measurements. Im roughly 7 inches below the hull from the prop fin. It needs to be I read 1.5"-2" below the hull. My question is what is the best way of raising my transom and did notice there are mini jack plates but I read some where only getting 3 inches of rise out of them. If you extend the transom 5 inches this causes the motor to stick further out from the boat is this a problem?

*Problem 2 repairing aluminum where the oar mounts where pulled and ripped from the side a bit. Best way of repairing this?

Ill Look around on here as well to get more ideas but I thought it would be best to start my own post since this is my first boat I really want this thing to turn out well. I consider what i got the motor for a steal in my area 10 horse motors are going for $850 for much older and $1200 for later 90's.

All the help and tips would be greatly appreciated.

:)

Re: 1972 Rich Line Hull Repair and Transom modifications

Thanks for the post. I hate to see that no one has replied. I picked up a similar boat this weekend (1970 12' Rich Line with a 15 hp Evenrude). I took it out on the water today for a successful leak test. I'll be interested to stay up with your progress. I'm not really sure where to begin on my end so any recommendations are great.

Welcome to iBoats!

You can make your own Jack Plate very inexpensively and fairly easily. Here's some links to show you how...

The Online Fisherman Forums :: Topic: How to build your own Jackplate (1/3)

Jackplate Plans, Construction Notes

If you're just wanting to cosmetically make the boat look better where the oar locks have been torn out, you can use JB Weld to fill the area on both sides and then sand smooth. If you paint the boat you'll barely be able to tell it's there.
