Some help please.....
I'm new to the boating world, and recently finished my "project boat"- a 1972 MFG Westfield runabout. Late last summer took it on it's maiden voyage, a fishing weekend on one of our larger lakes here in Pennsylvania. I used a 1972 Johnson 18 horse outboard with a manual till. This summer I'm planning on a bigger outboard with a rotary steering system.I've been getting 2 different answers on what length the cables should be, 14' & 15'. Can someone help??

Boat Topics and Questions is where I would post this question.Boat make does not really matter. My Westy has good old cable otherwise I would measure it for you.Probably need measurement from wheel hub to center of motor, not 100% sure.

One other thing is how much room you have from the center of steering wheel to the starboard side in relation to the steering system, they are not all the same. My 1966 Power Cat because of lack of room with the steering rack actually exits to the port side even though the wheel is on the starboard side. 15' boat with about 19' of steering cable.

There are many websites available that have diagrams on how to measure for a steering cable. West marine is one that come to mind. I could explain it here, but as the saying goes... A picture is worth a thousand words:D
