Hi, I have a 1973 115 hp Johnson. Last year everything worked fine up until the last time I took it out and hit a stump or something busting my prop...Today is the first time I took it out this year and everything went smoothly up until I was finally out of the no wake and at "wot" it pops out of gear everytime. Intermidiate speed and low speeds are fine...Any sugestions on what could be going on? Thanks in advance for any advise

ok....How will I be able to tell if the clutch dog is bad? I know that I will have to take the lower unit apart...I replaced all of the seals last year so luckily it won't be my first time...but what exactly should I look for?

Since the gearcase may have been removed, it is still possible that the shift rod needs to be adjusted. In the case of your motor, that is fairly easy.

The other possibility is a spun prop which would not be likely if you replaced the damaged one with new.-??

With the engine off, put the motor in neutral, and then disconnect the shift cable at the engine. Move the throttle lever on the remote all the way forward then back to neutral. See if the cable will snap back over the fitting without any adjustment; if not, adjust the cable with the trunnion until it will fit without moving the shift lever on the engine. Then test drive.
