Hey guys, I am up to my elbows in grease right now, and having some difficulties. I am attempting to remove the skeg from my outboard and it is not wanting to budge. I have removed 6 Philips head screws holding the skeg on and it is still fused closed. I need to get into it to flip the clutch dog and reseal it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to unfreeze this skeg?

There is nothing holding it other than the old sphegetti seal. I'd rap it (not sideways) with a soft faced mallet. The last person in there might have used some serious sealer like 3M 847. That stuff holds very well and may need a little gentle persuation to break the seal.

Don't forget to remove the phillips screw for the shift fork too.

I have it off now, it was just holding quite tightly. I rapped it a couple of times lightly with a 2x4 on either side and it come off quite nicely. I believe that the spaghetti seal was holding on a bit tightly.

Yep, they usually do. If they come apart easy, then something is wrong. :D
