Hi Everyone: I just sold my old 15' Tempest and now I'm about to pick up my new 24' Chieftain. Can anyone please tell me what this boat weighs? It has a Volvo Penta straight 6 AQ170 and a 270 drive. It is sitting on a tandem trailer with 13" wheels. The Iboats listing on this boat says it's 3400lbs dry, seems rather heavy for an aluminum hull and if this is correct it makes it too heavy for my Explorer 4L v6 and class 2 hitch . And help from other 24 owners and what you pull yours with would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve...

Yes that weight seems well over 1000#'s of what I would estimate myself...

Re: 1973 24' Chieftain

I have a 21 foot chieftain, 1984 with a 140 hp mercruiser.
Full of fuel (38 gallons), 25hp kicker, plus fishing gear I weigh 4300 lbs on the trailer axles, I estimate I have 400ish lb. tonge weight. My trailer has 12" tires 5.3x12 Crated are good for 1050lbs per tire, my trailer has 2,000lb axles. I just strenghtened the boat trailer tonge and next year will probably swap axles for 3,500lb axles and add trailer brakes. I pull it with a dodge 2500 with a canopy on it so braking is ok with just the truck. I plan to put a 8-9' camper on the truck so I will need trailer brakes.
I also changed the 1/2 plywood floor in the boat to 3/4" added a little weight there.
I wish mine was a 24' the extra 3' would be nice.

I have a 1970 21' chieftain. Fully loaded it was 2900 lbs across the scales. 4300 seems a little high.

That is strange my 21 chieftain weight is 4300lb on the trailer axles, plus tounge weight. Estimate 4700lbs with trailer.
I did install 3/4 floor, 25hp kicker, and my trailer is not a big heavy one. It has 2,000lb axles and 12" tires. 35 gallons of fuel
My estimate of the 24' would be 5200 lbs including trailer.
