1973 50 hp merc fuel problem

My 73 50hp merc, starts fine, idles, accelerates, runs great at any rpm until I slow back to an idle, it’ll die after a few minutes and I have to pump the bulb to get it started and keep pumping it until I get the rpms up. I replaced fuel tanks connectors, hose and bulb. What’s next, fuel pump?
I’ve had several outboards over the years and never this problem
