perhaps your prop is in dire need of a fix?
I looked in my manual and came up with these model #'s for a 1973 50 HP not sure which ones are electric or which are manual
50302 50303 50372 50373

Do you hear gurgling sounds when it revs up? That indicates that air is being sucked in the prop allowing it to rev freely in the foam. If you hear that noise, check for changes in the transom, like new hardware added or damaged antiventilation plate on motor. Also things like rope wound up on prop and other garbage hung up on the hull can raise havoc.

Basically, when things go wrong, look at the last change you made. If nothing has changed lately, then look for something failing.

no gurgling sound when it revs up..nothing on motor cant see any damage to anything. After I got past 3/4 throtle it would act like it had no bite on the water and the engine would rev real high like it would if you were in netrual.. As soon as I cut throtle back it would stop reving so high and rode fine.. when it did start to rev high you could feel the boat slow down..Then when I cut throtle it would sound fine and I could feel the boat pick up speed again but it did not jerk or anything.. Oh yea I did noticed when I first was going out when I went full throtle it seemed to pick up speed gradually not all at once like most boats I have been in the longer I was at full throtle the faster it seemed to get until it was at max..I have a 16ft 73 Larson tri hull and the max speed I could get was about 18mph..

Sounds like possibly the rubber sleeve in thr prop is slipping under heavy load (more thatn 3/4 throttle) I'd check that out.

Seth
