Hi, this is my first post (hopefully of many), I come to you from down under Australia, and am having a bit of trouble with my outboard.

It starts first time, every time - unusual for an outboard, but when I get it to about 1/2 throttle it misses big time, perhaps bout 5 seconds apart & sometimes feel like it's about to die. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this, the plugs look Ok, I havet done a compression test on it as yet, so I cant rule a head gasget out.

Somebody told me that they think it could be te power head, but I am thinking more along the lines of it being somethiong electrical.

Any opinions/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

cheers

downunder83
first welcome to Iboats!
second, most here seam to like seloc manual better than clymer. I found mine on ebay but should be available here, http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html
next it could be electrical, but I would clean the carbs first.

Actually, that is very typical for an outboard.

!. Do a compression test. All cylinders should be within 10 psi of each other.

2. Is your primer bulb (in the fuel hose) going flat while running? Thus starving for fuel.

3. Run it with the fuel cap loose. Again, checking for fuel starvation.

Don't forget that fuel pump diaphragm in addition to rebuilding or cleaning the carb. Also, the puddle valve system could be clogged but, I'd go with the carb and the fuel pump first. Both are cheap and easy to repair.
