I have 1973 johnson motor, when i turn the key nothing happens. i jumped out the wire going to the solenoid and still it won't engage the starter. if i jump to the other side of solenoid it will start. when i jump out the key switch i get power to the two poles on the solenoid, so i have power to the main pole and the two smaller poles. should'nt that make the starter pole hot? Is it posible I have two problems? i cant find what wire the key comes back to the motor? any help would be great. I'm going crazy  .... thank you...

Does the solenoid click when you turn the key?Can you jumper from the large 12 volt input side of the solenoid to the small coil terminal of the solenoid and get it to click or engage starter? If no on both ,the solenoid may be faulty.

I'm assuming that the battery is fully charged and all the engine grounds, iginition wires and battery and solenoid cables clean and tight.

Anyway,do the above test and tell us what happens.
