I have owned two Futura 162 outboards and love the handling and versatility of the boats.
The problem is both have had cracks on each side about a foot in from the outer corners of the bottom of the transom. The cracks are only on the transom and do not extend to the bottom of the hull. The location of the cracks are no where near the engine bolts and the transom themselves have no give at all. The first boat was kept on a mooring in Dorchester bay for the entire season and I used to get up to speed and open the plug to empty the bilge but that was before kids. I just picked up another one and would like to make it as safe and tight as possible.
The funny thing is the wood under the glass has been solid on both boats. Is there a problem with the design of these hulls and if so what is the best way to fix them permanently. Anyone had similar experiences?
Cheers,
Capt. Particlepood
