Hard starting or is it just me?. I just bought this rig and it runs very well but I have been having trouble starting it when cold. I cannot tell if I am giving it too much gas or not enough gas. External gas tanks with squeeze bulb that is in working order. Not sure how much pumping I should be doing on the bulb. Where should I set the choke? Off/Automatic/Full? It has new plugs gapped @ .30. The gas is fresh. 17' Boston Whaler Cohasset. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Hello JBATTEN,

This is the proper procedure in starting up your outboard.

1. Pump fuel bulb up hard/firm
2. Make sure the fuel tamk vent is cracked and there is plenty of fuel in tank.
3. Raise the warm up lever to full up.
4. Make sure if it is manual choke to set it at full choke when cold or push the key in if it is solenoid activated to start the motor as the outboard cranks up you might have to bump the key in a few times until she stabilizes and also lower the warm up lever to prevent over reving.
5. When she is warmed up I'd say about 5 minutes or so go baoting and you shouldn't have to choke anymore for that day.

Thanks, Bobby. I will try that in the morning and name the first flounder I catch after you!
