Hello All. I've just spent the last hour trying to line up the four mounting bolts that go through the magneto down into the retaining ring. Is there an easy way to line the bolt holes up rather than the blind hunt and search method I used today? The manual says to "install it" which makes it sound a lot easier than it was for me. Thanks, Rick.

It is easy....... simply have the four holes lined up as desired, then set the magneto armature plate down so that the four holes in the armature plate are directly over top of the threaded holes in the aluminum plate.

Note that the aluminum plate must be installed so that the flat side of it faces upwards, that is so that the flat side is against the underside of the brrass retaining ring. If the bevel side of the aluminum ring is facing up, you will never succeed in having the magneto function properly.

Well that's easy for you to say. I kept missing the holes but did get it in the end. Perhaps it would have been easier if I had stripped the points, coils etc. off the magneto first? I did have the parts right side up though. Thanks, Rick.

Well you COULD remove one of the screws and use an ice pick or something to align the holes as you set the armature plate in place.

However, after installing thousands of them, I can tell you that it is easy to just eyeball it and set it on there. Then rotate it back and forth a bit and the screws will fall into the holes enough to get the first one started. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

i have used a longer screw to get them lined up, then install the correct ones.
