1973 9.5hp Johnson Which Coil Goes to Which Cylinder

I know that on many older motors, the coil closest to the carb goes to the top cylinder, but this motor's different. The carb is on the side the same distance to both coils. Can someone tell me which coil goes to which cylinder based on their proximity to the head or some other landmark?

thull, A very simple way to determine that is to bring number one cylinder to TDC and see which points is opening. Then follow the wires to the appropriate coil and you found your answer... You could even bring the #1 cylinder to TDC and see which spark plug fires. Of course both plugs are out with them attached to the spark plugs ... Hope that helps out...

My 74 9.9 Johnny has overlapping coils, with the top coil going to the top plug.
