I just bought a 1973 bass cat in very good condition with a 73 85 horse mercury. I just put it in shop had wires replaced carbs cleaned replaced fuel lines. Runs great. The compression top to bottom is 130 130 130 125. Is this good for that year? and Was this year of bass cat good boats? I dont know much about them. I have 1550. total in the boat I beleive it is worth that

The compression numbers and the price you paid sound great to me. Got any pics? I'm not familiar with a Bass Cat.

I've been told that you should have less then 10% variance between cylinders. That engine looks good to me, but you may wanna keep an eye on the lower crank bearing, I've heard that it goes first for some reason, and thus you loose compression on the lower cylinders first. Not sure if this is true..but just going by memory now. You certainly don't have anything to really worry about yet though...those numbers are very nice.
