Ok guys, I have the solenoild, a total of 5 wires off of it. Hot wire to battery, plus a hot wire to the push start button. Hot wire on other side going to the starter. Small terminal on top has ground wire on it. Small terminal on the other side has a wire going to some type of switch connected to the shift lever, keeping it from starting while in gear, with a wire going from that switch to the start button.
When I push the button, nothing. Once in a great while it will click the solenoid. Once in even a greater while it will start the engine. Good battery, had it load tested and is fully charged. All connections are cleaned, cables good. Any suggestions on what to do now? I had put a Ford solenoid on it, no luck, replaced it with the original solenoid
Thanks

Those Ford solenoids are not direct replacements for the OMC solenoids. Yeah I know they look similar. The two smaller lugs don't directly corrospond from one to the other. I have jury rigged them just to get on the water till I could get around to buying a proper OMC solenoid. Easy to burn something up if you're not familiar with how they work. I say go buy a cheap VOM (volt meter) and go from there. It's a very simple circuit to check out if you have a meter. The fact that it is 'clicking the sloenoid' means that the circuitry it'self is probablly good, but, A ten dollar 12DC meter will tell all in less time than it takes you to go buy it.

I think you meant to say "Hot wire on other side going to the starter, (not battery).

I did mean starter, went in and changed it. Thanks for pointing it out.
