Very long story short, I put in a new head and gasket, impeller, added a telltale output in the head, and a new thermostat in my '73 Evinrude 50hp. It starts and runs fine except it is not pumping water to the power head. I'm running it on muffs and I can feel air coming out of the telltale (and a very slight mist or steam). I've dropped the leg off of it (a few times now) and verified the impeller is in correctly and turning, made sure the water tube was connected to the pump housing, took the cover off the head and removed the thermostat and pressure relief valve out and ran it only to have a couple drops of water come out.
I'm stumped, I can blow compressed air up the water tube and feel it coming out of the newly added telltale, I can also blow compressed air into the pressure valve opening and push some water out the leg. The only thing I have not done is drop it in water and try running it that way, I do not have a container large enough to get it into and frankly don't know if that would even make a difference...
Anyone have any ideas?
Picture, for the heck of it, lol.
