How can you tell if the powerpack is bad? New coils, starter, solenoid. Getting gas and it turns over with good compression. There is no power going to the powerpack that I can tell.

Check the posts below, Camp6 is fully detailed and eliminates problems from your switch and most of the wiring back to engine. Your power pack is a pricey little puppy at $170.00.

Good luck

I looked at those and still seem confused. But thanks for the suggestion. The biggest problem is not knowing anything about outboards. I'm not sure but if I turn the engine over and my meter reads voltage jumping up and down on the 3 sensor wires I should be getting a spark. If that's correct then the powerpack is shot. No spark with the black and yellow wire off either. I found the powerpack for $95. Heck the boat(16ft) cost $600 with a trailer and trolling motor. The Main motor is a gimme. I got a manual for it, but it just seems to be crap as far as the elecrical goes.

Well it sounds like you got a deal like I did paying only $500.00 for the original boat, motor and trailer. And mine is vintage 1977 with original papers. I made the decision to replace all the electronics because the compression was good and I still have less than a grand in the rig. At my age this was pretty much the best chance I had to get back on the water and I never did believe in rowing as an emergency get home. Feel good about the motor now and as soon as I get the boat cleaned up a bit will post pictures of the entire rig and what we have done so far. (We = Me & Wife). Son in college missing all the fun. Can't tell you what to do except maybe look a little deeper in threads.
I did pay big bucks for a rectifier that I don't need, but 5 years down the road it might be a blessing.

Good luck and maybe someone else will jump in with more detailed troubleshooting procedure on that year motor.
