I need to replace a crushed water tube on my 1973 85HP Evinrude. I already removed the lower unit. I removed the upper shroud, the main bolts and supporting bolts. Removed the sneaky little bolts that were for and aft, but the thing aint budging at all. Did I miss something? Please dont tell me I have to remove the power head? I ordered an original serivce manual weeks ago, but it still has not arived and I am anxious. Please and thank you in advanced.

Um yeah . . . that thing you don't want to hear. It's what you're gonna hear.

yeah power head removal time.... really not that bad.... once you get the powerhead to separate from the mid section... it can be very tenacious due to the sticky gasket there... several times i have had to use paint scrapers or very large standard screw drivers sharpened to the point of being dangerous to get between the midsection and the powerhead... once that is free the rest is piece of cake. That said... might want to consider painting, cleaning ect... cause you will have access to it all at that point.

I was affraid of that. I started in the power head removal, "since its not that bad" and I want to make sure. I removed the 4 mounting bolts and shifter linkage, besides that is there anything else I am missing? Again thank you for the help.

How does a water tube get crushed inside the leg?
