1973 evinrude rev limiter

i have a 1973 evinrude 40 horse.

i wasn't getting spark in the top cylinder. I was told to unplug the rev limiter.

it started first try after sitting for years.

how do you repair a rev limiter?

how does it work? vacuum I think.

It must be a normally open switch closed by high vacuum.

the problem went away by itself.

i disassembled the unit. it can't fail in the closed position. there was nothing wrong with it.

I think the switch on the timing advance plate was stuck and came loose after use.
