Back then it was Hi-Vis, now anything equivalent.

Standard marine gear oil is speced at 80-90 GL5. Standard auto gear oil is speced the same. Marine oil is claimed to be better for staying suspended with water. In the real world even auto gear oil stays suspended when gears are turning. Both types look like salad dressing when mixed...one just stays that way longer.

What size motor are we talking about here? The larger ones had power assisted shift. I would suggest you use BRP Hi-Vis in those.
