1973 johnson 9.5

i have just bought my first outboard of a family friend it has had little use for last 18 years (starting maybe once a year just to give her a run) but when i took it out for a run when i give her any more than half throttle it surges and wants to cut out would this be a sparking problem (there is a spark on both plugs) or is my mix to rich at 50-1
any advice would be great

Sounds like the high speed jet is clogged. I would go through the carb and see if that don't fix it.

It could be your high speed jet I would rebuild the carb and see if that fixes the problem. If not try the fuel filter or pump.
