1973 johnson outboard part question

what would the part be called that bolts between the engine and the lower unit? 1973 johnson outboard 9 1/2 hp. model 9r-73b.it has a shift linkage and a copper water supply tube.part # 31233. i just got this engine from my brother,and just replaced the water pump in the lower unit.<br /> what kind of performance should i expectwhen i put it on the 14'alum. boat as compared to my 2000 johnson 9.9 on the same boat? thanks..

I suppose this would berefered to as the mid section or exhaust housing. As for performance, I don't know I've never tested these two motors. I'm sure the newer would do a little better in some areas ,i.e. fuel consumtion, maybe a little more speed. The reality is 10hp is 10hp, unless your going racing they are all about even when it boils down.

9.5 h.p. is equal to about 8 h.p. <br />in 1986 all omc motors changed the way horse power was rated pre 86 was crank shaft horse power 86+ are prop shaft horse power<br />alcan sounds correct re part name
