1973 jonhson 65 horse

anybody have any tips on removing the bottom end to replace the impeller,dont have a manual i have ordered one but its gonna take two weeks and i want to get it in the water this weekend

Disconnect the shift rod by removing the pin in the lever beneath the carburetors. Remove the four bolts + 1 holding the gearcase on. Remove the trim tab (mark position first). There is another bolt above the trim tab. The lower unit is then free to drop down and away. The water pump will be right there looking at you where the drive shaft goes down into the lower unit. Lube everything when you put it back together and don't forget the o-ring on the top end of the drive shaft and the seal ring on top of the water pump cover. Put some sealer on the housing where they go together to prevent water from spritzing out there.
