Guys, I have a little problem. I'm working on the restoration of a 1973 Sierra Mark IV Cuddy Cabin. Well the prop wont come off. I have used penetrating oil and a mallet with no success. I know there are prop pullers out there. Any advice on how to get it off and where to find the appropriate prop puller would be appreciated.

When was the last time the prop was removed and the splines greased? in many cases, even a prop puller will not work and the alternative is to cut the prop off.

I have no idea when the prop was removed. I have had the boat in the garage for two years. It has been a slow start to the restoration.

I see you have three choices, get a puller, cut the prop off the shaft or apply some heat.

If you have an acetylene torch apply heat to the hub and prop shaft. Get it pretty hot but not red, hub will probably start to burn. Once hot splash with water and see if it breaks free

Get yourself a puller. Put a strain on it.See what you can do.
If its been is salt it may be nearly impossible.

steelspike... I have not had an opportunity to locate a prop puller yet. I spray a little penetrating oil on it every few days, but have not found the puller yet. Any suggestions on where to get one. Would a marine shop keep something like that on the shelf?

not many shops would keep them on the shelf, however they can order them. They are pricey (about $130). I boats has the traditional prop (C-frame) pullers for inboards, however I could not find a prop puller for I/O's

However for that price, I would be modifying a standard 3-jaw gear puller.

Ayuh,.... At that price, I'd cut off the stuck prop,.....
