I'm trying to find a Control Box. It has a MerControl on it. I order a new Mercury side mount Control Box for it and it had the wrong wiring harness. How do I find the correct wiring harness? Old control box has a 6 pin. There are no serial numbers or part numbers.

I think you can use that one. I'm not sure. Thought I would mention that. It may save you some money. Somebody will come along and help you with that. Soon I hope, Tim

If you can tell me how to add pics to this I would be glad for you to see them. Do you mind if I e-mail them to you?

You can just get a different wire and rewire your old box with it. That's what I did. I took a bunch of pics while swapping them in case you need help. I'll go look for a PN on the plug.<br />Here's a pic of how simple it is to rewire:<br />

The only number I could find on the harness is 60114 under a mercury logo on the plug. If you're looking to return your controls and get the right ones then maybe just show them the pic of the plug that I posted.<br />Eric

Go to a site like photobucket.com and sign up, then upload photos there and it'll show an address for the pic below it in the form
copy that address with the IMG tags and paste it in a message.<br />Eric

Nice looking engine. You missed a [ in one of those addresses.<br />Why are you getting a new control box if you already have one with the correct plug?<br />Eric

Control box is corroded on the inside alot of shorts in wiring and key switch does not function correctly nor does the shift/choke.

Re: 1973 Mercury 650 (65HP)

It shouldn't be too much work to fix that, just get a can of ship2shore and start cleaning. Maybe cut the wires off and make new ends. You shouldn't need a whole new box though. The wiring is probably the cause of the key switch issues, but if the key switch is also corroded inside it's repairable. I've opened up a key switch and fixed it before, the only problem I had with that was I couldn't get the o-ring back into the keyswitch when reassembling, but if it's corroded inside the o-ring probably wasnt doing much anyways.<br />Eric

Re: 1973 Mercury 650 (65HP)

I'm trying to put all new parts on the boat so I will have a nice reliable boat for the future. I bought a Seloc repair manual so far I've had no luck in finding parts or part numbers. I have replaced fuel lines and fittings. I'm also trying to find a tune-up kit spark plug wires, spark plugs, and distributor. I wanted to say I appreciate you trying to help me. Thank you!

Actually it seems that Eric has this well under controll. Also it (tune-up)ain't like a car.<br /><br />I'll note that the plug wires are assumed good unless they sparkle running in the dark, or give you shocks touching them. Replace the plugs and then remove and clean the distributor cap with carb cleaner, Q-tips etc. Finish it by running it through the dishwasher, and then replacing the little carbon brush on a spring in the center of the cap. Mercury gets almost $100 for a new cap - and they rarely fail.\<br /><br />-W
