I have a 1973 Seaport 23 foot boat that has a GM motor V8. The motor was tore down when i got the boat and nothing was hooked up. It doesnt have a prop outside the boat its made inside the unit that sucks water up from bottom and blows it out the back. I know nothing about inboard motors and how anything works and i was trying to find a repair manual for it. Would this boat be worth fixing and could i find parts for the jet drive if something is bad? any info would be great. also i know some people say a car engine wont work in a boat. what do you have to change other than the carb? diffrent cam, crank, ect.?

Add in brass freeze plugs, marine distributor and marine starter and you about got it covered. As to the viability of the boat, can't have any opinions without seeing it. For the Jet, you'll just have to look for any identifying marks and do a search for info on it.

the carb, crank, distributor and starter look ok from the old motor but the cam and lifters will have to be replaced. so i can add those things to a car engine and it will run in a boat???

you basically take an auto engine block, swap over ALL marine parts (ALL!!) from the other engine including ignition and carb, starter...everything.
Replace the core plugs in the car engine with brass (Sierra sells them via your local marina).

The automotive cam is also not suitable and could contribute to water ingestion of your marine engine. You need a marine grind cam... Edelbrock, Crane... every cam manuf has marine grind for chevy. new lifter are around $3 each
