Hey guys I'm new to the forum. My wife just got/found me a boat for free - a 1973 silverline aruba. Now I apologize if I am posting this in wrong section, but what size/types of motors will fit in this boat. It is an 18' inboard outboard, and I really can't find any info for motors on this boat. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 1973 sliverline aruba

Wow! A real classic and very well built boat. I bought mine new in '71, kept her for 14 years, and have regretted selling her ever since.

My old catalogs show a max. HP for the 16' model at 210, at the same time that their runabouts were rated for 140 and the trihulls at 165. I don't have a reference for the 18' model. That was their "speedboat" model. My local dealer only sold them with Mercruisers. I don't know if others were available or not.

Re: 1973 sliverline aruba

Hi Moosman,

I am familiar with the Silverline boats. My son purchased a 16' early last year for $300 and that included two Merc engines. (Neither of which were in running condition). Refurbishment during the past months included replacement of the stringers, floor, seats, and stabilization of the transom with Rot Doc epoxy. Between the two engines we were able to get the 80 HP engine running well enough to do a test ride this summer.

It is very fast with the 80 hp Merc, but it could not catch my wife's jet ski. But the jet ski had almost twice the HP.

His boat is an outboard hull with two jump seats and fold down front seats that form into a couch. He also has an enclosed bow. I believe he is now duck hunting with the rig and really enjoys the tilt/trim that the Merc has. For $15 he recently intalled a stern platform that makes swimming (reboarding) much easier.

Not sure what the HP of your IO may be, but "Google" silverlline boats and go the website. Many of the oldies are shown with their specifications.

Enjoy your new boat.

There are Coast Guard calculations that can be done to determine max HP. Search the forums as it's come up many times before, or turn to Google for max boat HP. Alternatively, give it a few more minutes and I'm sure someone will chime in here with the calculation.

A free I/O boat is going to cost you big time in the long run. What all is it missing? If it needs a motor and an outdrive you're looking at some major coin.

Yeah I thought that a free boat would quickly turn into a lot of money. But today I am going to pick up a trailer for one hundred bucks. This comes with another boat, so I am going to use the interior from that boat in mine. And a guy from church is giving me the motor and the lower unit and stuff. He is going to put it in for me....he's a boat mechanic. Since we are good friends he's gonna do it for free. I'm hoping that by using my resources (and friends) that I will be able to put this boat together for cheap and be able to get it in the water by spring.

As a side note I can't find anywhere another 18' foot silverline aruba, but that's what the title says, any ideas on this boat? anything at all?

Measure it. Titles can be wrong. Maybe its a 16. Or maybe its not an Aruba. Check out the pics online and see what model it looks like.
