Just started rerstoring a 1974 Glastron GT-160 that had this '74 150 on it - See pics.... Serial number 3917822

Worth trying to get her up and running or just look for another motor ? It sat for 5 years out in the open and might be trash. Controls were shot etc.

Sitting in my truck bed right now. Don't know much about old Mercs the just seem to be the right motor far that boat, although James Bond had, I think, a Johnson on his jump in the GT-150

Thanks,

Don

Re: 1974 150 ?

That tower of power will push that Glastron real well. JB did have a Evinrude however.

I would check several things before making decision. Let some oil out of the graecase. if it is clean and clear brown, that is good. Milky is bad. Remove spark plugs, give each cylinder a shot of wd-40 or something to lube it and hook up a battery using jumper cables to make starter spin. Compresion should be 100+ PSI. If good so far, inspect ign wiring and condition of dissy and switchbox. If they look good, you can give it a test for spark. Disconnect red and white wires on switchbox. use some clip leads to connect the positive pole of the battery to the red and white terminals on the starboard side of the switchbox. it should be top two terminals. Use the automotive jumper to connect battery ground to the lower cowling. Connect timing light to a plug wire and use jumper cable to spin the starter. if you see spark, the motor is probably worth fixing, as you likely need just a new wiring harness, boat harness and controls.
