Well, I'm back...and still on the prowl for a boat.

Found a 1974 SS with a 1992 100Hp Merc.

Wondering how well this set-up will pull skiiers in comparision to the boat I grew up with...a 1972 18 SS with a 115 rude, which was a friggin clydesdale.

Whatda think?

Due to being rated at the prop as opposed to the crank, it'll do at least as well.

When did they change rating HP from the crank? I thought the change didn't happen till late 90's. Thus, both the 1992 Merc and old 70's rude would have been rated at the crank.

(edit - ok, just googled it. The change occurred roughly around 1983-1985...and about a 10-15% change in HP rating).

And what about the Merc only running on two cylinders at low end...vs the rude running on all 4 at low end?

'86 ish. I know nothing of the cylinder cutout Mercs but I'd think it was only when you're idling. Wouldn't have a thing to do with pulling power.
