1974 225hp OMC prop will not spin...

I recently purchased a 1974 Fiberform boat with no motor and a electric shift OMC outdrive... I installed a 305 chevy motor and have everything hooked up and motor runs fine...<br /><br />when i shift in gear i can still turn prop by hand but the prop seems to have some resistance to turning in the shifted direction so it seems to be getting power to shift coils.. however the motor does not turn prop at all.<br /><br />any idea?<br /><br />*edit* I've read a few posts about noises in outdrive but mine makes no noise except the ball gears turning.

I just found water in upper gear housing oil but lower is clean.

it has been a long time since i have worked on one but eather the power is not getting to the shift coil or the coil or wrap spring has failed they used pretty much the same system on there out boards that were made at that time and it is hard to guess <br />if you can get to the harness and id the wires to the coils you should be able to do and ohm check to see if the coil and wires are good or not<br /><br />i would buy a service manual as it will make finding the wires and and the correct meter reading much easer<br /><br />tommays

lower end was ok but upper end gears were totally gone so no worky...
