Got the motor from a guy who said he last ran it in March, then it sat until today when i tried to start it up and it won't fire. I loosened a screw on the fuel filter and flushed any stale gas out and it still won't start. Any other things i should check with a motor that has sat for a while? Thanks!

To run, a motor only needs a spark at the right time, the correct mixture of fuel and air, and adequate compression.

On a motor that sat a long while, most likely problems are gummed up carb internals from stale fuel deposits or corroded points not allowing ignition.

Check the troubleshooting in Engine FAQs, DD.

most everyone here will tell you to at minimum change the water pump, and clean or rebuild the carb. Oh and most important try to find a service manual for that motor. These little motors are tons of fun to work on, and you feel great when you get them going again. good luck
