1974 70 hp johnson questions

im going to buy this motor tomorrow my question for you guys are what steps do i need to do to get this running again? here is a lil back round on this boat and motor
its a 1974 70 hp motor the boot is a 18 ft Critchfield. this boat was put in a basement garage in 1985 every thing is there boat is very sound solid. im not sure if the person winterized it or not. i will have new gas lines and check the carbs this boat was stored before ethanol was in the gas so any thoughts ? here are a few pics

You also might want to replace the fuel pump membrane.
Change/check the gear oil.
Replace water pump impeller.

Sweet looking hull, but, it doesn't seem to fit that trailer very well. The very first thing to check on the motor would be the compression. The compression numbers (ideally) should be within 10% of each other but if they are close that would work ok. The ignition should be checked with an air gap tester. If it has reasonable compression and the ignition is working, it should run (with fresh fuel/oil mix). Keep an eye on the pee stream after start up. You may want to replace the impeller just for peace of mind. Things seem to go away with age and I'm a good example of that.

sorry guys forgot to mention that i have a new impeller lol thanks for your responses any thing else

have a read through the sticky at the top of the forum, one of them is titled "awakening a sleep giant" it tell you all you need to do to get it up and going.

ok guys im headed out in the morning to hopefully get this gem lol i have another motor for it at home but since ima be at the inlaws wit a dock in the back yard ima fool with this motor tomorrow any more suggestions before i go? i really want the hull of the boat but the engine running would be great

ok guys i bought this boat with this engine on it got it to my mother in laws brought a 6 gallon gas can prime ball and battery checked the lower unit oil looks new so just for laughs i tried to start it an sure enough it fired up ran for a few an died pulled all 3 carbs they were way gunked up so right now they are soakin in carb cleaner hope to be on the water by tomorrow :D

a good carb cleaning is def a good start.. hope it goes well. happy boating tomorrrow hopefully.

ok guys got it running very nice purs at idle fires up right on the first turn put new plugs in this morning cleaned an checked fuel pump had some gunk on the screen got it going good wife is happy :D i bought he boat trailer and all for 500 figure thats a good deal
