A buddy has a 1974 Evinrude 115 that he got as part of an old boat/trailer combo. He is only interested in the trailer and wants to trade the Evinrude for a 1980 or so Mercury 50 that belongs to my brother. (The buddy has a boat he is re-doing that is only rated for 60 HP.)The Evinrude hasn't been run in at least 5 years, but supposedly ran the last time the boat was used. It looks pretty good under the cowl, very little corrosion and nothing is locked up. I pulled the plugs and they looked like everything had been firing. Plan to compression test it before any trade is made. What do you think of the 115 Evinrude--decent motor/worth fooling with? We might use it if it turns out to be ok to re-power a 17' Glassmaster that currently has a 1981 Merc 80 on it that has worrisome corrosion issues, although it runs well.
