1974 evinrude 135 keeps blowing rectifiers

I have a 1974 Evinrude 135 Strangler. The tach on the boat doesn't work and the battery doesn't charge. I replaced the rectifier and it immediately blew. I then replaced the stator (not cheap) and then blew another rectifier. What am I missing? Why would the rectifiers be frying so quickly? The power pack doesn't affect this part of the stator/rectifier, right? I can't keep buying rectifiers at $25 a pop. This is getting really frustrating...

Is it really,really well grounded?

Check and clean all grounds, add more grounds. Look over the wiring harness for any wires that could be frayed and grounding out.
