1974 evinrude 15hp cooling system

does the water go out thru the prop or the hole at the top of the mid section or both. I replaced the impeller but it seems to be getting hot. thanks guys

Check your thermostat is working, put it in a saucepan with water and heat it up

I have the lower unit off and I have forced water up the tube, lot of pressure and cannot get a drop of water to come out up top . where is the thermostat located? thanks

If that motor is like my 1984 9.9 the thermostat is on the bottom of the head, it’s much easier to take the head off than trying to take off just the thermostat housing.

Thermostat is down at the bottom -- best to take off the head cover, then work on the t.stat removal on your workbench. To get off the head cover in that tight space, leave the lower two bolts loose in the cover after backing out of the head. Lift the head cover out vertically.

If by "up top" you mean the upper hole in the midsection, no water will not come out there by putting a hose to the tube. It just doesn't work that way.
