So rebuilt the carbs and was testing it....it started up and had a runaway idle so I went to shut it off and the key stuck (another issue) so I pulled the fuel line to wait for it to run out of gas. I then noticed the muffs had slipped off and the alarm was blaring. It finalky quit after a minute or 2. The power head was smoking a bit and steam was coming from the telltale. I waited half an hour and it ran fine.....what damage did I do?

Time to change the water pump impeller. Even if it was new I wouldn't trust it after it ran without water for a minute or so. Other than that it is most likely fine.

If it ever runs away again on you, put some rags over the air box intakes. Also check the torque on the cyl head bolts.
