Hello all thank's for helping with tach question now I am having a problem with either my contorll box or cables my controlls wont shift out of reverse, but if I loosen the cable @ the motor I can shift there no problem. Is there any common problems with these boxes. It is a powershift II, and if I need a new box is that the only box I can use? Thank's Chad

The throttle or shift trunion nut at the engine end is where you make the adjustments of the cable lengths.

If you want to set it up correctly,
disconnect the cable,
manually shift the gearcase into neutral,
move the remote control arm all the way to WOT,
then return the arm to neutral,
then adjust the cable until it slips back on without moving the lever at the engine at all.

If you had the gearcase off, you first need to adjust the swivel barrel at the top of the shift rod. It needs to be turned all the way down, then up no more than two turns maximum.

Sounds to me like you need a 386542 shift lever and/or a 318185 shift and throttle plate. These are both inside the remote control. "http://shop.evinrude.com" without the (") marks will show you which dealers have them in stock. Lube these parts well to prevent them from wearing out again. Well, hey, they've lasted 34 years, right?
