Weird question for Starmada but I trust you all with information more than any folk out there in iboat land...seriously! You all know your aluminum (Starcraft, other boat grade aluminum, or beer can aluminum).

I can't find squat on a 1974 LoneStar Alimonum hull 17' walkthrough. I can only find Chrysler bought Lone Star in 1965. Is Lone Star ( bought by Chrysler) the same as LoneStar? Is the LoneStar boat I'm looking at a Chrysler then? I'm doubting because everything I come across for Chrysler boats in 70s is fiberglass... The boat description ( found below) says " walk through windshield" with cover you can lock down to make a small cabin...huh? How does that work? Are there seats up there then?

Here is the link: http://duluth.craigslist.org/boa/1912866726.html

Thanks for the help!

It's the same Lonestar, Chrysler bought them out in '65 I think.

That is basically a replica of the Starcraft Holiday model. Just like CBK's rig, it has a flip-open windshield so you can get a breeze or walk on the bow deck to toss an anchor or dive off the boat.

Nice rig that one, I'd love to have that motor:D

That is a Lone Star. Neat boats. I would have to respectably disagree with HA though....I think they are quite a bit different in their design and construction than Starcrafts. Both are indeed very well built tinnies.

i own one of each so figured i'd add my 2 pesos' worth. this hull in the ad looks considerably more refined than the early 60s stuff, but comparing my '64 SC with my '62 LS is night and day.

the LS is built of heavy aluminum, but the hull is just a crude upscale of a grumpy old men tinboat....no bow flare to knock spray down, and a far less pronounced "Clipper bow" than the SC. it also isn't symmetrical, to the tune of over an inch difference between port & starboard...i quit worrying about the perfection of my workmanship when i saw that!

The SC is a much better engineered hull.....it says something that they basically used the same hull design for many many years....and looks to have much better quality control.

that said, if this can be had at a good price, i'm sure it will do the job. look at the usual stuff on wood bits. but if i had to do it again knowing what i know now, i'd hold out for a 16SS or Holiday and be willing to drive somewhere to get it.

oh, and yes, this is the same Lone Star that was building boats in the 50s-60s. there's a good history on Fiberglassics.com

I agree with EZ and Barato that the actual hull design is more than a bit different than the Starcraft line.

What I was really referring to was the interior bow structure. That seems to be very similar to the Holiday w/ flip open windshield.

I almost bought a 16' Lonestar last year real cheap because it was on a trailer for a 14 footer. I liked the boat though, it was an early 60s model with some character and they are some heavy tin cans.:)

Thanks for the input fellas! EXACTLY what I was looking for! I have not received any more pictures from seller, so was not sure if it was an open or closed bow. Also good to know the heavier, and other intricies of the hull compared to the SC hull(s). I told ya you all know your aluminum!
