1974 Merc 85hp Fuel Supply Problems

Ok I Put In A New Gas Tank The Primer Ball Will Not Harden Up When Pumped. I Have Rebuilt The Carbs, New Fuel Pump Diaphram, New Fuel Lines. So Everything Related To The Fuel System Is New. Now The Only Things I Did Not Change Is The Rubber Fill Tube From The Gas Cap To The Tank And The Rubber Gas Vent Tube. They Both Look A Little Dry Rotted But Not Leaking. I Though Maybe They Are Sucking In Air When I Try To Prime? Any Thoughts..anyone? I AM ABOUT TO STRIKE A MATCH AND RUN.

Double check your primer bulb and make sure the arrow on it is pointing towards to motor. If it is, it may be bad. Did you set the floats properly when you rebuilt the carbs?

Floats Were Set Properly. Arrow Is Facing Motor. It Is A Brand New Fuel Line, And Primer.

is fuel spitting from hose attachign to carb (when removed and bulb pumped)? Pickup tube might be last step if not.

Borrow a portable tank with hose and plug it in and see if you have the same problem. If not you know the problem is with your tank.

Ok. I Pulled The Line At The Fuel Pump. Squeezed The Primer And Nothing. It Will Periodically Pull Some Fuel From The Tank But Not Enough To Do Its Job. I Guess I Got A New Fuel Line With A Bad Primer Check Valve. Sound Logical?

Ok All. It Is Something With The Tank. I Pulled The Fuel Line And Pushed It In To The Bottom Of The Tank Through The Fill And The Line Primed And Engine Ran. So I Have To Look In The Tank Now. Thanks For Everyones Help.
